This is a fascinating story, with a slow start that serves the plot wisely!

Young Anna Johnson is struggling with the death of both her parents to suicide. First her father and some months later her mother as well were gone and she was left behind, to mourn. Now she is a mother herself to a newborn baby! She is trying to understand why they both committed suicide but she cannot figure it out. When on the anniversary of her mother’s death a greeting card arrives with the message “Suicide? Think again.”, she is more than certain that her parents have been murdered. Her therapist partner and father of her baby believes she needs support, since the police investigation has clearly shown that both cases were suicides. Only Murray Mackenzie, retired crime scene investigator believes there might be something else behind those deaths.

Mackenzie is retired from the force, while still working in the police department as a civilian. He was one of the best detectives while on duty. His wife is suffering from a mental illness and Makenzie is supporting her in every way possible.

This is the first Clare Mackintosh book I read, however I have read many good reviews on her other books, from people I value their reader’s opinion. Having said that, I am going to put in words my own personal opinion.

“Let Me Lie” is a book that starts really slowly, in order to build the necessary atmosphere and environment around the story and the main characters involved. It is told of multiple points of view, hence giving the reader the different perspective and a more holistic view of what happens or has happened in the past. Even so, there are so many twists and turns that you can never say you were seeing that coming!

And that is what I really like about the book! In the beginning I was confused with one of the narrations. I could see paranormal injecting in the story and I really didn’t like it. But I kept reading and I was rewarded!
