“Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace: he has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You’d like to get to know Grace better. But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love.”
Jack is a handsome lawyer defending domestic violence victims. A real hero and a real gentleman. The couple’s friends can see how he treats his beautiful wife, full of kindness, love and adoration. Grace is the perfect hostess in a friendly dinner. She is a marvelous cook and yet so thin! She loves her husband and everyone can tell by the look in her eyes! For a stay-at-home wife, she is never to be found available when a friend calls her at home. Jack and Grace seem to be the perfect couple and most of their friends accept and envy that!
This book speaks for all those women that do not have the strength to speak for themselves and declare half of this world, fake. It is difficult to talk about this book without revealing it and that should be a hating spoiler for future readers. Therefore, this review will try to safekeep the secrets of the book that make it such a powerful read.
To claim so, it must be said that it hits the reader from the blurb. Right from that point the reader can tell that something isn’t right with this couple. In fact the author gives all clues very early in the narration. Even so, it hooks you up until the last page. Even though you know the whole situation that the book goes by, you cannot let it off your hands.
Paris’s writing is powerful and emotional. She can make you sympathize and connect with the heroes vividly. Or even hate one of them… The amount of emotions that it causes is far more from other books. It is not the suspense that makes you turn the pages. It is rather the need to see how it will actually evolve. Is there salvation after all?
One of the things the author makes us think about is how easily one can surrender their own lives when it comes to protecting that of a loved one. And then, how strength and determination can fly away, when living in constant terror. But we must never give up hope, as help comes from the most unexpected places…!
